PFFM and MDA 2010
Posted On: Feb 24, 2010

Brothers and Sisters,
At last years October meeting we talked about how the PFFM can increase it's participation and working relationship with the Maine MDA organization. Quite frankly, as an overall organization we did not do well last year and I take must take responsibility for letting us slip on this important IAFF function. Since that time, Patrick Saucier of  Gardiner Local 2303 stepped forward at January's meeting and has taken on the role of the PFFM's liaison with Maine MDA. Patrick had a recent meeting with MDA staff in Westbrook and will start to lay the ground work for what I know will be a much better showing by all our locals for MDA in the coming year. We plan another get together with MDA staff in the very near future to include a number of representatives from our locals to discuss new idea's and improvements we can make in our working relationship.
Please look over Patrick's brief report below so you can see some of his ideas on starting points for better participation from every single local. That is our goal this year, participation on some level from all of you.

At our next quarterly meeting on March 30, 2010 we will be looking for the delegates from each PFFM local to bring us the name of a contact we can use to work with. This will help us is creating a better network for getting the information and help you will need to make this a successful year. If you have any ideas or questions, please contact Patrick at the contact info below. We look forward to your renewed participation.  We know that the kids we will be helping will be truly grateful. Thank you.

President Martell,
On February 9th, I met with the MDA staff in Westbrook for an informal meet and greet.  We talked briefly about new ways to increase fund raising efforts from all locals, especially inactive locals. We also talked about having one or two contacts from each local who I can remain in contact with to help resolve any issues that may arise during fund raising or other activities involving MDA.  Other issues talked about was possible having the "competition" between locals change to be a competition between districts. This would hopefully increase funds raised and help promote solidarity between locals.  I do plan on having another meeting with meeting with the MDA staff within the next month or so. I know that you have expressed interest in meeting with the MDA staff please let me know when you are available and I will set something up. Thank you for this opportunity.

Patrick J Saucier
VP Local 2303
